Basement Water Removal

If you have water in your basement – from a faulty sump pump, storm flooding, burst pipe, broken water heater, etc. – call for immediate professional help. A delay in getting help to remove the water from your basement could result in everything in your basement sustaining greater damage – and even compromise the very structure and foundation of your home.

Adding insult to injury, by not seeking the services of a professional water damage cleanup company, you risk the possibility of an infestation from mold in areas where water has seeped and not thoroughly dried. The end result? A health risk to you and your family and more expensive repairs to finally clean the mess and restore your basement to its normal dry condition.

American Fire & Water Restoration, a certified, full-service water damage restoration company, understands how discouraging it is to have a flooded basement. We also understand the possible health and safety concerns you may face, such as from electricity that has not been properly shut off or from biohazards that may be present in the water. For those reasons and others, we never recommend that you attempt to remove water from your basement by yourself.

We provide service when you need it most – 24/7/365 – because emergencies such as a flooded basement never take a day off. Flooding in your basement can occur in a number of ways.

  • Stormwater can enter from outside due to heavy rains that are unable to drain properly.
  • A washing machine can break down and overflow.
  • A hot water heater can fail and leak.
  • A power outage can mean your sump pump shuts down and water overflows from the pit.
  • A pipe can freeze and burst.
  • A toilet can overflow and leak water everywhere.

Our Basement Water Removal Process

American Fire & Water Restoration follows a step-by-step process for every basement water extraction job. We put our training and expertise to work to get the best results for you.

  1. Take precautions. Upon arrival at your home, step one is to take all necessary safety precautions, including donning hazard gear and shutting down electricity if necessary. We’ll locate the source of the water entry in your basement and take appropriate steps to prevent additional water from entering your basement.
  2. Assess the damage. Next, we assess the extent of damage based on the amount of standing water and the levels of absorption into walls, insulation, flooring, carpets, furniture, and other items in the basement. We also examine surfaces that require a specialized drying procedure, including hardwood, brick, and concrete.
  3. Identify the water type. Floodwater is categorized depending on its source, for example, if the flooding is due to a burst pipe or if water has entered from outside the home. Different types of water contain different levels of contaminants and biohazards, and consequently, require a different course of action for proper cleaning and sanitizing.
  4. Extract the water. Our state-of-the-art equipment removes the basement water quickly and directly to our truck so that it does not come into contact with any other surface on your property.
  5. Remove the contents. We remove debris and all damaged items that cannot be salvaged and properly dispose of them. Items that can be cleaned and restored are inventoried and removed for cleaning and sanitizing.
  6. Dry the affected area. We place high-powered air movers, fans, drying panels, and dehumidifiers to remove all dampness from the area. We may even open doors and windows to let the sun and favorable breezes help with the drying process. We also place sensors to gauge humidity levels and temperatures, as needed.
  7. Clean the basement area. We use specialty cleaning products to thoroughly clean, sanitize, and deodorize the basement. Any area that is susceptible to mold receives a specialized treatment to prohibit mold growth.
  8. Renovate your property. We always strive to restore and renovate your property to its original state. We provide construction services to rebuild and any areas that were damaged by the basement floodwater.
